About us
All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) are informal cross-party groups which focus on a particular topic.
They are run by and for Members of the Commons and Lords, though many choose to involve individuals and organisations from outside Parliament in their administration and activities.
The APPG on Wellbeing Economics is committed to the concept of a wellbeing economy which emphasises the importance of human and environmental wellbeing. The wellbeing economy involves going beyond GDP and measuring quality of life as people experience it across the UK.
The APPG exists to share the latest in wellbeing science with Parliamentarians and convene experts and evidence to inform policies that improve wellbeing in the UK. It will:
- Promote an evidence-based approach to decision-making.
- Increase Parliamentary understanding of wellbeing science and policy.
- Collaborate with Parliamentarians and wellbeing experts
Ultimately, the APPG believes population wellbeing should be at the heart of public policy.
The group’s Secretariat, the World Wellbeing Movement (WWM), is a social impact organisation and registered charity working at the intersection between academic experts and decision-makers in both business and policy. Their aim is to translate evidence-informed wellbeing insights into real-world impact, putting wellbeing at the heart of decision-making. Founded by two of the world’s leading academic experts in wellbeing science & policy, Prof Lord Richard Layard and Prof Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, and housed within the University of Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Centre, the WWM brings academic credibility, international reach, and an evidence-led approach to embedding wellbeing into business and public policy.
